Blood Donor

I gave blood today
That's a good thing to do
Watched my cells spin round a centrifuge
I drank the bottled water too
Free crackers in plastic packs of two
I killed a river and so did you

I met someone today
They were talking to their shoes
Yellow socks with polka dots of blue
"I like to paint the things I see, do you?"
They said and asked where I was going to
I remember that I did not have a clue

In the library they come and go
Looking for books on Michelangelo
They sit in the sun in their favourite chair
Nobody wants to talk to them
The library people are tall and kind
Seven oh seven to seven oh nine
Oh the world out there is a lonely time

I went for a swim today
That's a healthy thing to do
I'd like to dive, but I'm not very good
Many people come in their costumes
It's very clean. That's what the filter's meant to do
I killed a river, and so did you
