Petals

Had we
Had we not
Had we

These petals strewn
And sewn
Like carpet weave under microscope

The gray lianas
And creatures strange
How very like the brain
So magnified

Or a Brillo pad
Or discarded bread

All briar patch
Had at the limits of our clarity

Yet tender underfoot
Had we not
