Eight Urban Views

1.
Straight glass lines
wistful for slices of the sky,
drinking in that river's
dance of light
Hardness is fluid
And we loosen for a moment
Into what we are -
Reflections

2.
Overhearings -
conversation snippets
whispered on platform 13
'they'd fallen in love on a train'
As escalators persist
In slow migration
And faces in glaze

3.
The sedan
Wails in the twilight
The sentinel bins
Gathered at the kerb
The suits and ties
In running shoes
Offer no assistance

4.
Between buildings,
the canyons and tram brakes -
a coyote howls
We imagine them
Carved by the rhythms of feet
Rivers of iambic people
unaware
of their music

5.
Tyres screeched
Reversing lights
The puppy still
Wants to run
In the arms
of the woman
Slippers wet
From the lawn
The tennis ball
Slowed and
Slinking into drain

6.
Under the clocks
she stands
Shifting balance
as trepidation weighs
She knows which line
she'd like to take
Across the road
Cathedral chimes
The flower vendors' petals float
confetti at her feet

7.
Sparrows survey the lay
of land, a world ensliced
by humming wires
and fence lines
The cats at number five,
the crumbs from the wrinkled
hands of Ms Clive
The higher perches,
illusions of the sky

8.
Outskirting -
conversation drifts
the wild steep grass
Patterson's Curse
They come in their cars
the suburbs soft
as fields of stars
For the feeling
For the view
